Motorsport PR – In Motorsport PR, it’s been another action-packed day at Autosport International with visitors treated to the amazing sight of a grid of F1 cars from the past few years – and a host of historic Formula Fords to celebrate the series 50thanniversary.
In the fantastic F1 Racing display, visitors can feast their eyes on F1 cars from the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, Williams and Red Bull to name just five. They could also get up close and personal to the Jaguar i-Type, the company’s Formula E racing car.
At the other end of the single seater ladder were a host of historic Formula Ford racers. Three-time Formula 1 world champion Ayrton Senna’s Van Diemen RF81 headlined a display of Formula Fords to celebrate the series’ 50th anniversary at Autosport International. The Historic Sports Car Club’s feature also included Formula Fords raced by Nigel Mansell, Michael Schumacher and Emerson Fittipaldi.
The revamped Autosport Stage saw a packed audience entertained by a host of famous racers including former F1 driver Derek Warwick, Porsche LMP1 driver Nick Tandy and young-gun Lando Norris, who won the 2016 McLaren Autosport BRDC award.
In the Live Action Arena, stuntman Terry Grant really revved up the crowd with a nail-biting loop-the-loop performance. The incredible display of precision driving saw the daredevil pull well in excess of 5g during the stunt. Autosport International offers families the best live racing entertainment yet with shows in a 5,000-seater arena, all included with every ticket.
With the walls and ceiling keeping all those wonderful sounds and smells close-by, it’s an intense 60 minutes that can really only be described accurately as “petrolhead heaven”, offering an unrivalled variety of racing action, driving demonstrations, record-breaking stunts and celebrity appearances.
Meanwhile, at a slightly more sedate pace over at the Gallery Suites at the NEC, was the prestigious Watkins Lecture. Named after former long-standing Formula 1 Medical and Safety Delegate, Prof. Sid Watkins, the 20th annual lecture was presented to hundreds of visitors by FIA Safety Director, Laurent Mekies, and covered a host of topical issues relating to motorsport safety.
In Autosport Engineering, Best Technical Innovation Award went to MoTec, whose 3G/4G to VPN Telemetry offers unrivalled car-to-pit data streaming, while the award for best stand went to FI.TIM.
As we enter the weekend, it’s time to really roll out the red carpet and visitors to Autosport International can expect to see 1997 F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, four-time Indycar Series Champion Dario Franchitti MBE and Williams F1 rookie Lance Stroll to name just three.
