Classic Car PR – In Classic Car PR, owner and founder of the leading name in vintage Bentleys, William Medcalf Vintage Bentley, hit the track at the Goodwood Members’ Meeting.

Despite being more used to monstrous racing vintage Bentleys from the 1920s and 1930s, Medcalf demonstrated his competitive prowess being the wheel of  the ex-Jon Mowatt 1275 GT Mini.

Medcalf has enjoyed phenomenal success around the world as a historic rally driver and also plays a huge role in Bentley enthusiasts’ track activities from behind the scenes. William assists with organising many race meetings and track  days, in addition to being the world’s best vintage Bentley race preparation specialist

Medcalf has competed in and won the likes of the Peking to Paris, The Flying Scotsman rally and competed in the Benjafield’s 24, Le Mans Classic and many more around the globe, and he tapped into this vast experience at the Members’ Meeting to enjoy a fantastic race.

Despite starting in second-to-last place in the Gerry Marshall Trophy thanks to an unfortunate misfire in qualifying, Medcalf quickly made up the ground and enjoyed fantastic battles on the track.

He was locked in a particularly gripping tussle with a Rover SD1 throughout the race, but managed to get the better of his rival in style and pip him at the final corner before sprinting to the line.

William Medcalf commented: “The sprint race was absolutely epic. I started last but one on the grid due to the misfire and not finishing the previous race, but made it up to 18th had an amazing battle with a Rover SD1. At one point I overtook him only to be out dragged on the straight, but I finally got him on the last corner on the last lap and held on to the finish line. We never touched, but I know the paintwork very well having spent most of the race in his boot lid… incredible!

“The Mini was fantastic and went like a rocket; big thanks to Swiftune Engineering and Nick Swift – the best Mini driver in the world – for all his help and driving support. It has been a privilege and an honour to have been invited.”
